Why FileReadyNow
One Tool for Every Markdown Format You Need
Convert Markdown to HTML, plain text, or BBCode. You can also paste HTML and turn it back into Markdown. Everything works in the browser with nothing to install.
Works Both Ways
Switch the input between Markdown and HTML at any time. Paste raw HTML and get clean Markdown back, or go the other way around.
Clean HTML Output
The HTML output is clean and minimal with no inline styles or extra wrapper tags. You can paste it straight into a CMS, email template, or documentation system.
Plain Text Extraction
Strip all Markdown syntax and get the plain readable text. Useful for pasting into word processors or any tool where asterisks and hash marks would show up as literal characters.
BBCode for Forums
Convert your Markdown to BBCode, the format used by phpBB, vBulletin, and most forum platforms. Write your post once and paste it straight into your forum editor.
Table of Contents Generator
Switch the output to TOC mode and the tool scans all headings in your document and builds a linked table of contents you can paste at the top of the page.
No Account Needed
Everything runs in your browser. Your content is never uploaded or stored anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.
Markdown is a plain-text format that is meant to be converted, not just read. Whether you are writing documentation, a README file, a blog post, or content for a website, the format you export to matters. The Markdown Converter lets you paste your content, pick the output format, and copy or download the result in one step.
How This Differs from a Markdown Previewer
A Markdown previewer shows you a visual rendering of your text so you can see how it looks. This tool does something different: it converts your content into a format you can actually use somewhere else. You can get the raw HTML code, stripped plain text, BBCode for forums, or a table of contents. You can also paste HTML into the input and convert it back to Markdown.
Conversion Modes
- Markdown to HTML: Converts your Markdown into HTML tags. Headings, lists, bold, italic, links, images, blockquotes, code blocks, and tables are all supported. The output has no inline styles and no extra wrapper elements.
- Markdown to Plain Text: Removes all Markdown syntax and returns just the readable text. Good for pasting into word processors or any tool where the asterisks and hash marks would show up as actual characters.
- Markdown to BBCode: Converts to the format used by phpBB, vBulletin, and most forum platforms. Write your post in Markdown and paste the BBCode result straight into your forum editor.
- Markdown to Table of Contents: Reads all the headings in your document and builds a linked table of contents in Markdown format. Paste it at the top of any long page.
- HTML to Markdown: Switch the input type to HTML, paste any HTML snippet or page, and get clean Markdown back. Useful when moving content out of a CMS or cleaning up copy-pasted web text.
Common Use Cases
- CMS Publishing: Write in Markdown, convert to HTML, and paste into WordPress, Webflow, or any CMS that does not accept Markdown directly.
- Email Campaigns: Draft your email in Markdown, convert to HTML, and paste the result into your email builder or template.
- Forum Posts: Write with headings and lists in Markdown, then export as BBCode for phpBB, Reddit, or any vBulletin-based forum.
- Documentation Table of Contents: Paste a long document, switch the output to TOC, and copy the generated list to add at the top before publishing.
- Content Migration: Paste HTML from an old site or CMS export and convert it to Markdown for use in a static site generator like Hugo, Jekyll, or Eleventy.
Format Toolbar and Keyboard Shortcuts
When the input is set to Markdown, a toolbar appears below the editor with buttons for the most common syntax: headings, bold, italic, lists, blockquotes, code blocks, tables, horizontal rules, strikethrough, and checkboxes. You can also use keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+B for bold, Ctrl+I for italic, and Ctrl+K for a link. Your content is automatically saved to the browser so it survives a page refresh. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Word Count and Reading Time
The stats bar updates as you type and shows word count, character count, line count, reading time, and the number of headings in the document. Reading time is calculated at 200 words per minute, which works well for technical content that tends to be read more carefully than regular prose.
Step by Step
How to Convert Markdown to HTML, Plain Text, or BBCode
Select your input format using the toggle at the top. Choose Markdown if you are writing or pasting Markdown, or HTML if you want to convert HTML back to Markdown. Then type or paste your content in the left panel, or upload a file.
Pick the output format you need: HTML, Plain Text, BBCode, or Table of Contents. The right panel updates as you type so you can see the result straight away.
Copy the result to your clipboard with the Copy button, or download it as a .txt, .html, or .md file using the Download menu on the output panel.
