Why FileReadyNow
Convert AVIF to Lossless PNG with Transparency, Free and Private in Your Browser
AVIF is great on the web but awkward everywhere else. Convert to PNG and your images open in every editor, design tool and operating system.
Lossless Output
Every decoded pixel is written to the PNG exactly. Each file is then optimised so you get the smallest lossless PNG possible.
Transparency Preserved
AVIF alpha channels carry straight into the PNG. Prefer a solid background? Fill transparent areas with white, black or any colour.
Resize While Converting
Scale down to 4K, Full HD, a thumbnail, a percentage or an exact longest edge. High-quality resampling keeps edges clean.
Works in Any Modern Browser
If your browser can't read AVIF on its own, a built-in WebAssembly decoder takes over automatically. No plugins or extensions needed.
Batch Conversion
Convert up to 20 AVIF files in one go and download them individually or together as a single ZIP archive.
No Upload to Server
Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never sent to or stored on any server. No signup, no watermark.
AVIF is one of the most efficient image formats ever made. Built on the AV1 video codec, it routinely produces files far smaller than JPG or WebP at the same visual quality, which is why so many websites, CDNs and image-heavy apps now serve it by default. The catch shows up the moment you save one of those images. Many photo editors, office suites, design tools, upload forms and older operating systems still can't open an AVIF file.
This converter turns AVIF images into standard PNG files that open everywhere, without any loss of quality and with transparency kept intact. Drop in one file or twenty, choose a size and background if you need one, and download the results. Nothing is uploaded and there's no account to create.
Why Convert AVIF to PNG Instead of JPG
PNG is lossless. Once your AVIF is decoded, every pixel is stored exactly as it is, so the image won't pick up a new round of compression artifacts. That matters if you plan to edit the image, layer it into a design, or save it again later. Converting to JPG would add a second layer of lossy compression on top of the AVIF's own.
PNG also supports transparency, and AVIF often carries an alpha channel, especially for logos, product cut-outs, stickers and UI graphics. JPG has no alpha channel at all, so any transparent area would be filled with a solid colour and couldn't be recovered. PNG keeps it as it is.
The trade-off is file size. AVIF is a lossy format that's extremely good at compressing photos, and a lossless PNG of the same photo will usually be several times larger. For graphics, screenshots and images with transparency the difference is much smaller. If the size matters, resize the image while converting or pick the "Smaller file" option, which reduces the PNG to a 256-colour palette.
Where AVIF Files Cause Problems
Older versions of Windows, Microsoft Office and many desktop editors can't open AVIF, or need an extra extension installed first. Design tools and website builders often reject AVIF uploads or show a broken preview. Messaging apps, marketplaces and government or job-portal upload forms typically accept only JPG and PNG.
The most common way people end up with an AVIF file is by saving an image from a website. The browser shows it as a normal picture, but the saved file is AVIF, and then it won't open anywhere else. Converting it to PNG solves that in one step.
Advanced Options, Explained
Output size scales the image down to a preset or custom longest edge, keeping the aspect ratio. It's the most effective way to get a smaller PNG without visible quality loss. Compression chooses between a fully lossless PNG and a compact 256-colour PNG, which is ideal for graphics and icons. Transparency keeps the alpha channel or fills transparent pixels with a colour you pick, which is useful when the destination doesn't handle transparency well.
Metadata such as EXIF, camera details and location is not copied into the PNG, because each image is rebuilt from its decoded pixels. Animated AVIF files are converted using their first frame.
