Why FileReadyNow
Convert HEIC Photos from iPhone to Lossless PNG, Free and Private in Your Browser
HEIC is Apple only. Convert to PNG and your photos open everywhere, visually identical to the original but a fraction of the size of a raw PNG export.
Lossless Quality
Every pixel is preserved exactly, then each PNG is re-compressed for the smallest possible lossless file.
Resize for Smaller Files
Need a lighter PNG? Scale photos down to Full HD, 4K or a percentage of the original, or switch to a compact 256-colour PNG, all before converting.
Batch Conversion
Upload multiple HEIC files at once and convert them all to PNG in a single pass rather than one at a time.
Full Resolution Retained
The converted PNG matches the original photo dimensions exactly, so nothing is cropped or scaled during the process.
No Upload to Server
Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never sent to or stored on any external server.
No Account Required
Upload your HEIC photos and download the PNG files. No signup, no watermark, and free to use as often as you like.
When Apple switched to HEIC as the default photo format on iPhones and iPads, it was a reasonable engineering decision. HEIC files are smaller than JPG or PNG while holding more detail, which makes a real difference when you are storing thousands of photos on a device. The problem is that HEIC does not travel well. Windows, many web platforms, photo labs, design tools, and older editing software simply do not know what to do with it.
This converter solves that without any friction, and without giving up any quality. Drop in your HEIC or HEIF files, and get back standard PNG files that work everywhere and look visually identical to the original photo. No app download, no account, and no limit on how many times you use it.
Why PNG Instead of JPG
JPG and PNG solve different problems. JPG uses lossy compression, which throws away some image data permanently to shrink the file. PNG keeps every pixel boundary crisp, with no blocky compression artifacts. If a photo will be edited further, layered into a design, or needs to stay perfectly crisp through multiple saves, PNG is the safer choice.
PNG also supports an alpha channel, which JPG cannot do at all. If your HEIC photo has transparent or semi-transparent regions, such as an image you plan to composite over another background, converting to PNG keeps that transparency intact. Converting the same file to JPG would force a solid background in, and there would be no way to recover the transparency afterward.
A raw, uncompressed PNG export of a photo can easily be larger than the original HEIC, since HEIC's codec is far more efficient at lossy compression than PNG's format is at storing data losslessly. This tool keeps every pixel exact and re-compresses the PNG to the smallest lossless size, but a lossless PNG of a photo will still usually be larger than the HEIC. For everyday sharing, JPG is the smaller file. For transparency, editing, or design work where PNG is required, this tool gives you the best possible quality.
Where HEIC Files Break Compatibility
Windows Photo Viewer and File Explorer cannot open HEIC files by default. Microsoft makes a codec available through the Microsoft Store, the HEVC Video Extensions, but it costs money, and most people have no idea it exists until they see a blank thumbnail staring back at them. That friction alone sends a lot of people searching for a converter.
Design and layout software is the clearest case for PNG specifically. Tools like Figma, Canva, PowerPoint, and most website content management systems expect PNG or JPG, not HEIC, and many don't support HEIC uploads at all. If you're placing a photo into a design file, slide deck, or web page and it needs a transparent background or maximum edit-safe fidelity, PNG avoids re-encoding losses that JPG would introduce.
Social platforms and most web upload forms have inconsistent or nonexistent HEIC handling, so the file may silently fail or show a broken preview instead of the photo. Converting to a standard format first removes that guesswork, whether you choose PNG for editing work or JPG for casual sharing.
Print labs and photo kiosks accept JPG almost universally, but PNG is also widely accepted and preferred for anything that will pass through additional editing before printing, since it won't compound compression loss the way repeatedly re-saving a JPG can.
Your Photo's EXIF Metadata Never Makes It Into the PNG
Every photo taken on an iPhone carries embedded EXIF metadata, a block of information attached to the image file that travels with it wherever it goes. That metadata typically includes the GPS coordinates where the photo was taken, the exact timestamp, the iPhone model, the lens and aperture used, and in some cases the device's serial number. None of this is visible in the photo itself, but anyone who knows how to read EXIF data can extract it from the file in seconds.
Because this tool decodes each HEIC file down to raw pixels and rebuilds a new, optimized PNG from scratch, none of that original metadata carries over automatically. If you're posting a photo publicly or sending it to someone you don't know well, that's a privacy upside you get by default, with nothing to remember to toggle on.
For batch conversions, multiple files download together as a single ZIP archive. Each file inside is processed and compressed individually, so the output is consistent across the whole batch with no per-file setup required.

Frequently Asked Questions
A HEIC to PNG converter changes images stored in the HEIC format into PNG files for easier compatibility and editing.
Yes. iPhones commonly use HEIC for photos, and you can convert those images to PNG format.
Yes. You can convert HEIC images to PNG online for free.
The conversion is designed to maintain the best possible image quality, although converting between formats can affect file characteristics.
No. You can convert HEIC images directly in your browser.
Yes. The converter works on modern smartphones, tablets, and desktop browsers.
PNG can be more convenient when working with applications, websites, and editing tools that have limited HEIC support.
Neither format is universally better. HEIC generally offers efficient compression, while PNG is widely supported and useful when image quality and compatibility are priorities.
